Officer Meeting

It turns out that Paranoia Agent is far too expensive for our club to buy. Which means we will not be watching it at the Meltdown. Sorry. We're going to be replacing it with Angel Beats

Also, another thing we didn't realize when choosing anime is that Toradora! isn't actually in English... So that will be a day of subtitles. But it looks pretty interesting and worth watching anyway.

We're planning to buy a rice cooker for the club so we will be able to have rice to eat at events.

We also discussed anime we would like to buy for the club because we have a lot of money to spend this year. If there are any reasonably priced series that you would like our club to buy just let us know and we might purchase it. We're just looking to expand our inventory

Starting next week we will be meeting at the couches in the student center. Everyone is welcome to join us.

Pumpkin Scissors Monthly

The Pumpkin Scissors Monthly yesterday went really well and several members commented that they liked it a lot more than they thought they would. So if you didn't get a chance to see it you should check it out.

There was an average of 13 people there the whole time, which is pretty good considering last year there were a few events where we could barely get the 5 officers to show up.

I wish I had pictures to show you but I didn't feel like taking any... because I'm still trying to get in the habit of carrying my camera with me. Also I feel awkward taking pictures of people when they're watching stuff and we legally can't take any pictures of the anime while it's being shown. Maybe next time.

Our next event is a Meltdown. It is scheduled over SMSU's Fall Break which is October 13-16. We will be in BA 102.
Saturday - xxxHolic
Sunday - Toradora!
Monday - Kino's Journey and Paranoia Agent
Tuesday - Air Gear

Officer Meeting

There wasn't a whole lot of new things that we talked about. We nailed down who was going to run the projector during the monthly and discussed Detour a little bit.

"In computer science 'Cat' and 'Tara' are the same thing." -Michael

Figuring out how we are going to get money for the meltdown. Snacks will cost $3 per person every day or $1 each day with a membership card.

Or, alternatively we station a highway man along the BA-CH link bridge and have him steal wallets for us. (Jon's idea)

Membership Cards

After 3 years of promises I've finally made membership cards. Yay! They're both awesome and terrible. For the record I am not a graphic designer but I do know how to use Microsoft Publisher... sometimes. I usually just draw these sort of things out in paint but I was using business card paper so I needed the correct formatting.

Anyway, enough about that and more about the cards.

They cost $5 and that money goes to providing you with snacks at events. Which is why the main feature of this card is getting you discounts on those very snacks you helped provide. The exact discount varies from event to event so pay attention at club and to these posts to figure out how much you will have to pay at each event but most Monthlies will be free if you have a card.

You can also rent anime for free from the office. Gasp. That's right, we have a huge anime collection and you can rent from it.

Front of the membership card.

Back of the membership card.

I made enough to last the club a couple years.

Officer Meeting

We're all set to go for the Pumpkin Scissors Monthly on September 29th. We just need to buy snacks.

Detour applications are due at midnight tonight. So make sure to get yours in.

We're going to have a Meltdown over fall break (October 13-16). It's where we have 4 Monthlies in a row. That's 48 hours of anime over the course of 4 days. Here is the lineup:
Saturday - XxxHolic
Sunday - Toradora!
Monday - Kino's Journey and Paranoia Agent
Tuesday - Air Gear

Looking Ahead:
We're probably going to watch Soul Eater as an Overload sometime in the future when we can buy the whole series as a set. And we want to watch Count of Monte Cristo as a monthly.

All of the Chocolate Treats You Can Eat

I'm not sure who it was but someone beat me to the treats game. It was a guy too. I was pretty impressed. Sadly they were all gone before I got there. But good job, glad to know I'm not the only one who is going to bring treats.

I brought brownies as the reward for exceeding the anime club new member bet. I also brought the leftover ice cream from the club fair. That went over pretty well too. Sadly the boys didn't take the root beer back to the office so Vogie couldn't have a root beer float which I had promised him earlier in the day.

We had approximately 35 people again. Wow. That's so awesome. And most of them stayed through our third series. Which is quite the achievement. Can't wait to see if they're all back next week. It's nice to see a lot of new faces.

Posters

My thrown together in 5 minutes poster so we could get some up at the beginning of the semester.
We are in desperate need of cool looking posters that will stand out in the hallways. The ones we have right now are pretty boring looking. If you can draw, or are at least decent with organizing and detailing a poster we can use your help. You just have to make sure to include some basic information, or make sure the picture is small enough so I can include the information around it.

  • Mustang Anime Otaku or Anime Club
  • Tuesday
  • 9PM
  • CH 201
You are allowed to use either original art, or fan art that you have created. This means you cannot simply use images from the internet or copy images you found in the internet. We do not want to violate any copyright laws.

If you want to create posters but can't draw you can always find willing artists on DeviantArt. They are usually willing to give permission to use their art. I think most are pretty flattered. I just need to see a copy of the message giving permission as well as the original location of the art.

We want to make sure that anything we use is properly credited. This includes any art you create yourself.

Officer Meeting

We got the room for the monthly. We're going to be watching Pumpkin Scissors in CH 201 on September 29th. It will be starting at noon and running until midnight.

The club has tons of money and we need ideas for anime to buy. This is the list of anime we have. You should also keep this in mind if you want to rent anime from the club.

We're planning on having another Meltdown during fall break. October 13th-15th. This means we will be starting at noon and running to midnight all 4 days.

Detour forms need to be turned in on September 18th. Keep in mind that you must be a student next semester and we'll need you to be able to turn in your $40 fee shortly after the 18th.

The officers all miss Noah Boyd.

Club Fair

The club fair was very successful. We had a whole bunch of people come to our table and sign up for our newsletter. They all seemed pretty excited about the anime club and seemed interested in coming to our meetings and events.

This seemed to be independent from the fact that we were serving rootbeer floats. Everyone who wanted a float didn't sign up for the newsletter and all the people who signed up didn't want a float. Weird. We went through two 2-liters of rootbeer and a gallon and a half of ice cream.

Of all the clubs it seemed that we had the most people sign up for a newsletter. Which is awesome. We also had a great table right along the main walkway.

The wonderful Jessica Slater who took me to Walmart to buy the stuff for floats. She also hung out with me till she had to go to class.

Jamison Starr, Michael Paulson, Jon Diel, and Zeke Peterson-Wahl hanging out and manning the table. We also had a signup for Game Club as well.

New People and UnCookies

We were excited to find that we had 11+ new people at our first club meeting. When I counted there were 35 total people. That's amazing. We also got a lot of old members back who had fallen by the wayside. So hopefully everyone comes back next week.

Since we had 11 new members we exceeded the bet that I (Chloe) started. I asked all of the current members how many new people they thought would show up at the first meeting. The highest guess was 10. Since we exceeded that everyone will get treats next week.

All of the series are pretty fun and everyone seems to enjoy them a lot.

We handed out Detour application forms that are due September 18th.

I (Chloe) made chocolate chip cookies for the first meeting to greet everybody. Only to discover I didn't have enough butter and I didn't have any eggs or vanilla. Time to improv. I added extra shortening to make up for the butter, replaced the vanilla with cocoa powder, and added caramel/vanilla coffee creamer to  replace the eggs.

Anyway they still turned out pretty good even though they were really sugary.

*update* I discovered they were so sugary because I was using mislabeled measuring cups.

Cookie dough.

Cookies. They needed more flour and less sugar.
